INCLUSIONS

The Hindu temple (shrine) of Kedarnath is devoted to the Hindu God Shiva. The temple is located in the Indian state of Uttarakhand, near the Mandakini River, in the Garhwal Himalayan range. Due to harsh weather conditions, the temple is only available to the public between April (Akshaya Tritiya) and November (Kartik Purnima, the autumn full moon). During the winter, the vigraha (deity) from Kedarnath temple is transported to Ukhimath, where it is revered for the following six months. Kedarnath is seen as a unified manifestation of Shiva, the 'Lord of Kedarkhand,' the region's ancient name.
