INCLUSIONS

In India, the Char Dham is a group of four pilgrimage locations. It is thought that visiting these locations aids in the attainment of moksha. Badrinath, Dwarka, Puri, and Rameswaram are the four Dhams. Every Hindu is expected to visit the Char Dhams at least once in their lives. Adi Shankaracharya described the Char Dham as four Hindu pilgrimage destinations. The four primary 'dhams' are the birthplaces of Lord Vishnu. Badrinath became regarded as the "First Dham." The second location, Rameswaram, gained significance during the Treta Yuga when Lord Rama erected a Shiva-Lingam here and worshipped it to get Lord Shiva's blessings. Rameswaram derives its name from the Sanskrit phrase "God of Ram." The third, Dwarka, gained significance during the Dvapara Yuga when Lord Krishna visited there.
